GoDefy Privacy Policy
Effective Date: June 1, 2005 - Art Dacor USA LLC dba GoDefy ("GoDefy") cares about the privacy of all its users. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of information we gather when you use our site (GoDefy.com), and how we use it. By visiting GoDefy.com, you are accepting the practices covered by this Privacy Policy.
Collection of Information
We collect information about our visitors to help us personalize and continually improve your experience at GoDefy. Here are the types of information we gather:
- Information you give us - We store information you enter on our website. Examples of the information you give to us includes search queries, comments, reviews, and suggestions you post, sign-up details, and information provided while receiving customer service. As a result of those actions, you might supply us with such information as your name, e-mail address, mailing address, and e-mail addresses of friends you have referred to GoDefy. You may choose not to provide certain information, but as a result you may not be able to take advantage of some of our site's features. We use the information that you provide for purposes including, but not limited to: responding to your requests, personalizing your shopping experience, improving the GoDefy.com website, and communicating with you.
- Automatically obtained information - As with most websites, GoDefy.com uses "cookies," which we use to track your status as an individual on our website. Your cookie does not contain information specifically about you unless you are logged in. If you are not logged in, we know nothing personally identifiable about you. Other examples of the information we automatically collect and analyze include the Internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the Internet; login; email address (only if you logged in); password; computer and connection information such as browser type and version, operating system, and platform; search history, visit history; the URLs (website addresses) you use to navigate our website, including the date and time of accesses; and products you viewed or searched for. If you use features designed to help you visit websites anonymously, we will not be able to provide you with a personalized experience at GoDefy.com.
- E-mail communications - To help make e-mails more useful and interesting, we often receive a confirmation when you open e-mail from GoDefy.com if your computer supports such capabilities. If you do not want to receive email or other mail from us, you can adjust your email preferences in your GoDefy account.
Cookies
- Cookies are basic identifying codes that we transfer to your computer's hard drive through your Web browser to enable our systems to recognize you as an individual user on our site, and to provide features like personalized greetings, account access, Recently Visited Items/Categories/Authors/Companies, Saved Items, and Saved Comparison Lists.
- The Help portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether. However, most GoDefy.com functions will not work without cookies being activated, and we recommend that you leave them turned on.
Information sharing
We are not in the business of selling information about our customers to others. We share customer information only as described below:
- E-mail announcements - Periodically, we send email announcements to GoDefy members with details of free software, competitions, sweepstakes, beta tester requests, GoDefy feature launches/updates, new products, customer surveys, ocassional sale offers, marketing opportunities for (internet marketing) authors/merchants, and freelance work opportunities. These emails are 100% opt-in only, meaning you have to specifically request them before we send them to you. If you opted-in and no longer wish to receive such offers, please change your email preferences in your GoDefy account.
- Promotional offers by e-mail - Sometimes we send offers via e-mail to GoDefy members on behalf of other companies. When we do this, we do not give that business your name or e-mail address. These offers are 100% opt-in only, meaning you have to specifically request them before we send them to you. If you opted-in and no longer wish to receive such offers, please change your email preferences in your GoDefy account.
- Promotional offers by post - As a service to our members, we ocassionally allow selected quality companies to send qualified offers to you by post to your physical address you gave us. When we do this, we only provide that business your business/company name, your full name, and mailing address. We do not provide your e-mail address or any other personal information. To ensure that you only receive offers you want to be told about, we target offers according to your interests as indicated by you in your GoDefy account. These offers are 100% opt-in only, meaning you have to request them before we send them to you. If you opted-in and no longer wish to receive such offers, please change your email preferences in your GoDefy account.
- Business transfers - As we continue to develop our business, we might sell or buy stores, subsidiaries, or business units. In such transactions, customer information generally is one of the transferred business assets but remains subject to the promises made in any pre-existing Privacy Policy (unless, of course, the customer consents otherwise). Also, in the unlikely event that GoDefy, or substantially all of its assets are acquired, customer information will of course be one of the transferred assets.
- Protection of GoDefy and others - We release account and other personal information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law; enforce or apply our Terms of Service and other agreements; or protect the rights, property, or safety of GoDefy, our users, or others.
- With your consent - Other than as set out above, you will receive notice when information about you might go to third parties, and you will have an opportunity to choose not to share the information.
Security
- It is important for you to protect against unauthorized access to your GoDefy.com account. Log out whenever you have finished using a shared computer (such as in a cybercafé). To do this, click the "Log Out" link at the top of every page. Once you have done this, your account will be inaccessible to anyone using the same terminal after you. We recommend that you log out only when you feel that you must. If we cannot identify you, it is more difficult for us to identify items that might be of interest to you. To log back in to the system, click the "Log In" link at the top of every page. You will be prompted to enter your username and password. When you've done so, click the "Log In" button.
Accessible personal information
GoDefy gives you access to a broad range of information about your account and your interactions with GoDefy.com for the limited purpose of viewing, in certain cases, updating that information. Examples of information you can access at GoDefy.com include personally identifiable information (name, e-mail, password, and email preferences); GoDefy email settings; Recently Visited Items/Categories/Authors/Merchants, Saved Items, and Saved Comparison Lists.
You have the power to choose
- As discussed above, you can always choose not to provide information, even though it might be needed to take advantage of a GoDefy feature.
- If you do not want to receive e-mail or other mail from us, please change your email preferences in your GoDefy account.
Conditions of use, notices, and revisions
If you choose to visit GoDefy.com, your visit and any dispute over privacy is subject to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, including limitations on damages, arbitration of disputes, and application of the law of the state of California. If you have any concern about privacy at GoDefy.com, please contact us with a thorough description, and we will try to resolve it.
Our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service may change every so often. We will email major changes in the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Unless stated otherwise, our current Privacy Policy applies to all information that we have about you and your account. We stand behind the promises we make, however, and will never materially change our policies and practices to make them less protective of customer information collected in the past without the consent of affected customers.
