Android Auto will get new car-ready apps next month

Click here for more.Google’s Android Auto is poised to improve your in-car entertainment, potentially outperforming Apple CarPlay.  Starting in February 2025, drivers will gain access to a slew of new features, including video streaming, web browsing, and mobile gaming.  This expansion is part of Google’s initiative to improve its car-ready apps program, which was unveiled at the 2023 I/O conference.  The program aims to populate the sparse Play Store for cars with diverse app options that offer entertainment and utility while adhering to safety standards. Your favorite apps are coming to your car with Android Auto update The first wave of apps includes video, gaming, and browser categories, but they must comply with Google’s stringent safety and quality guidelines. (via: AndroidAuthority) Notably, the apps must support x86 architecture, sidelining vehicles equipped with ARM chips, although some compatibility might be offered through Android Auto’s legacy mode.  Additionally, app resolution is capped at 24p to ensure safe and smooth functionality during use. Among the confirmed apps is AMC+, allowing users to stream content like The Walking Dead. Access to these apps is restricted to cars certified with Google built-in, though Google has not disclosed the specific models.
