Apple’s next chip upgrade is on track for iPhone 17 series: report

Although Apple recently launched the iPhone 15 Pro and the M3-powered MacBook Air using chips manufactured through the 3nm process, the Cupertino firm is already looking to the future, as a major chip upgrade is underway, which will be ready in time for the iPhone 17 series.  DigiTimes reports that TSMC is on track to produce 2nm chips for Apple. They will start small-scale production by the end of 2024, and if all goes according to plan, mass production will begin in early 2025— right in time for the iPhone 17 series. Trial production will begin in the second half of 2024, followed by small-scale production in the second quarter of 2025. If initial testing of the 2nm chips begins by the end of 2024 and mass production takes place in early 2025, the new chips will be ready right in time for the iPhone 17 series—assuming the DigiTimes report is correct.
