I will stop raging about bird website soon. However, I had an email exchange with a client who wanted to know if they should be using Twitter in an ads strategy. I told them, definitively NO. That client is not a big advertiser. They are a small business willing to spend $500-$1000 / month with Twitter. They already spend that with LinkedIn, and spend far more than that on Facebook, and Google. Twitter logistically cannot turn a profit without advertisers. While $6,000-$12,000 a year isn’t much in the grand scheme, it is 62-104 Twitter Blue subscriptions. The ad agency I work for meets with about 100 SMB owners a year. Whether we sign a contract or not, we give advice, and typically statements like “never advertise with Twitter” tend to stick out in memory.
