The Nintendo Switch 2 could support Amiibo and faster Wi-Fi

The Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor, with recent FCC filings confirming key features that will improve connectivity and functionality.  One of the most reassuring aspects for longtime Nintendo fans is the confirmation of NFC support, strongly suggesting continued compatibility with Amiibo.  Given that the original Switch featured an NFC reader in the right Joy-Con, the filings indicate that the Switch 2 will follow suit. This ensures that players can continue using their existing Amiibo collection for in-game perks and collectible value. In addition to NFC, the filings reveal that the Switch 2 will support Wi-Fi 6, a substantial upgrade from the original Switch’s Wi-Fi 5.  The improved wireless standard will enable faster, more stable internet speeds, making online gameplay smoother and downloads quicker.  This improvement puts the Switch 2 on par with the PlayStation 5 in terms of wireless connectivity.  The original Switch struggled with inconsistent Wi-Fi performance, often failing to reach its maximum potential speeds, even when using Wi-Fi 5.  While the OLED model introduced a wired LAN port to improve connectivity, Wi-Fi 6 on the Switch 2 should provide a more seamless online experience without requiring additional accessories. Another notable design improvement is the inclusion of USB-C ports on both the top and bottom of the device, allowing for more flexible charging options.
