Zuckerberg throws fact-checkers under the bus, goes full X mode

Meta’s boy wonder just went full Elon, announcing that Meta is kicking fact-checkers to the curb and embracing what he calls “free expression.” Translation: Facebook and Instagram are about to get way more… interesting. And not in a good way. In a video that definitely wasn’t trying to impress anyone in particular (cough Trump cough), Zuckerberg declared they’re “getting back to our roots” by ditching those pesky third-party fact-checkers in favor of X-style Community Notes. Because apparently, nothing says “truth” like letting random internet users duke it out in the comments. “We built a lot of complex systems to moderate content, but the problem with complex systems is they make mistakes,” Zuck explains in the video, seemingly forgetting that humans on the internet are basically chaos incarnate. He’s betting big that Community Notes will somehow magically solve what teams of professional fact-checkers couldn’t. Meta’s also moving its trust and safety team from California to Texas (because nothing says “we’re totally not playing politics” like that), and they’re cranking the political content dial back up to 11. According to The Guardian, Meta plans to “dramatically reduce censorship” across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. The cherry on top?
