Samsung Galaxy Ring in advanced development, says report

A few months ago, Korean outlet Naver spotted a patent filing that indicated that Samsung is working on a Smart Ring. We didn’t know enough about this supposed Galaxy Ring until now. A new report has now revealed some details on this potential Oura Ring competitor. The Samsung Galaxy Ring’s mass development The Korea-based news outlet, The Elec, is reporting that Samsung has already begun “advanced development” of the Galaxy Ring.  The report notes that the firm in charge of developing the printed circuit board (PCB) for this smart ring is a Japanese firm called Meiko. The report states that the date for mass production is uncertain, so it is anyone’s guess when Samsung will reveal the Galaxy Ring. That said, the Korean tech giant has already applied for a patent for a smart ring that compliments XR (extended reality) headsets/glasses. It indicates the XR devices would be able to use the smart ring to acquire data.  The ring could potentially be groundbreaking, as it opens the door to controlling XR devices with your fingers, eliminating the need for some extra hardware needed for smart glasses and headsets, like cameras and other hand-tracking sensors. Samsung could also make this more than just a remote for its XR headset and maybe an Oura Ring competitor. However, this is just a patent for now, and there’s no guarantee that the final product will see the light of day.
